baby's first Christmas

We were blessed to be able to spend Christmas in Rapid City, SD with Leslie's parents. This was Leslie's first Christmas off since starting residency.

Claire was not a big fan of sleeping on the plane anymore now that she is a mature 7 month old, so we were very glad that snacks of Cheerios, dehydrated apples, and sweet potato puffs kept her entertained (aka quiet) when nothing else would.

Leslie and Ryan were able to go out on dates and even go skiing (where we forgot to take a single picture of ourselves) all thanks to fantastic grandparents who were more than willing to spend a little extra quality time with their only grandchild.

Claire loved to look at herself in the mirror and then try to chew on herself, which was very fun to watch, especially when she was doing this on Grandma's curio cabinet with all of the miniature animals where we could get fun pictures of her.

Here are Ryan and Leslie doing one of Leslie's favorite pass times- coloring with brand new Crayons.

Claire liked opening presents if she got to eat the paper, but otherwise was not terribly impressed with the process.

She got to wear her fancy red Christmas dress a few more times to church which was fun. No little girl looks cuter than when she wears a fancy dress, white tights, and patent leather black shoes.

We got to spend time with some dear friends who introduced Claire to Cheerios covered in chili when we were over at their house for lunch on Christmas eve day. Claire seemed to like it pretty well.

I had to capture a few pics of our friend Diane taking pictures since this is her natural state of being.

We have recently noticed a theme that Claire loves to stare at men, especially men with facial hair

While in Rapid City, Claire got to experience real snow for the first time. Most days were too cold to take her outside, but Christmas day was perfect so we dressed her up in her hat, coat, snow pants, and snow boots and made a snow angel and let her play with the snow a little bit. She had a fairly good time feeling the cold snow, after finishing her protest of all of those warm clothes which she hates.

Leslie and her Mom got to take a girls day out and get mani/pedi's which was super fun. The only down side was walking several blocks in the snow in flip flops to get to the car afterward!

Before we left Ohio, we did open up a few presents that we had under our tree- most importantly Claire's first wagon from Grandma and Grandpa. It is the fanciest wagon I have ever seen- I'm pretty sure it has an engine and 6 disc CD changer in there somewhere between the 4 cup holders, roof, cooler, re-arrangeable seating with under floor storage, etc (doesn't this sound like a mini-van description?).

Cooper wanted to get in on the fun too so I tied a ribbon around his neck and told him to look regal. I think he pulled it off beautifully, don't you?
